The term PARTS OF SELF is a longstanding psychological concept. It refers to the idea that you (as well as every other human being) has a number of different dimensions that make up WHO YOU ARE. And most definitely, who you THINK you are. 🤔
For example...
❤️ You’re not just the role you play within your family.
❤️ You’re not just the kind of worker you are, when you're at your job.
❤️ You're not just the total of how your partner or spouse sees you.
❤️ And you're more than the sum of your deepest fears.
The truth is, WHO YOU ARE is a little bit of ALL these things, and then some. 🎨
When I do "Parts work" with my clients, the goal is to help them identify HOW THEY WANT TO FEEL in all these different dimensions of their lives. From there, we work backwards to determine what kinds of beliefs, actions, and attitudes will help them live the way they want to, as the kind of person they want to be.
In my experience, Parts of Self work is also effective at helping recovering people build a positive and resilient sense of self, as part of their bigger recovery program. It’s hands-on, it’s creative, and it gets people to confront the all-important question of....
